The Struggle Against Torture by Isolation Bulletin - N° 1 - June 2000 - Extracts Özgür TAYAD
To the Europeans who claims themselves to be defenders of Human’s Rights, democrats, progressists, antifascists, detractors oftorture... We are the families whose children are political prisonners in Turkish jails. Could you imagine a country where disarmed prisonners are murdered behind wires, inside four walls ? Could you imagine a country where the state acts like a n executioner in prisons with extraordinary systems of safety. In this country, prisons gets rid of prisonners’ coffins, under the eyes of relatives. Horrible pictures have been published in newspapaers : Prisonners who have been mutilated and burned, heads crushed by beams and bodies ridddled by bullets.In this country, mothers and fathers find in funerarium their children’s corpses, though they were healthy when they entered in prison. They do not just take their freedom, but their lives too. In this country, the reign of Barbary is a shame for Humanity. And this country That people praise the progress in 'democracy' is Turkey ruled by a Fascist state... How many nights did we go through without closing our eyes, to wonder when will happen a new assault, to wonder how much of our sons will die and who will be the next mourning mother ? We did not allow ourselves to slee... We watch news at TV with fear, waiting for a new assault and a new massacre in prisons. When our children perish in every cells with mortal hunger strikes and claim the right to dignity, how is it possible to eat our own meal ? How is it possible to prepare the dinner when they are hungry ? In our own lands, at the time of hunger strikes, the time of massacre in Buca, Ümraniye, we suffered to lost our sons. Our beloved sons have been savagely murdred in prisons under the rule and the responsibility of the Governement. That cruelty would make jealous Hitler himself... These scenes of mutilated bodies in the nazi camps could be seen one more in our country but this time under a veil of « democracy ». Prisons in our country are become a sea od blood. Though so much pains, our sons’ cheerful eyes and tender heart, filled by a deep love for people warm us. Our captive children make vivid Human’s vertues and the dignity of resistance. Even if we cry in the deepest of our heart, we stay with our head held high. For they face human dignity against oppression. They resisted with their revolutionar’s identity. They never submit. For that reason, they had to endure the worse treatments... Wherever in the world, resistance is a honourable mission and a right. In our country, because prisonners used that right, people want to confine them in isolation cells. Europeans who claim yourselves defenders of Human’s rights (…), the prisons of our country are in the news. The fascist state in Turkey is going one more time to attack political prisonners. The set of isolation cells has been often delayed because of our children’s resistance. But the fascist state is in hurry. It is near to transform the prisons where our children are convicted for their believes to isolation cells, and torture rooms... Isolation tends to destroy and submit our children by daily torture, for many days, moths, even many years... The Turkish state is so near to comit the most important crime against Humanity. Europeans who claim yourselves defenders of Human’s rights (...), we will resist with our children. In this strugglen, we want to see you in our ranks. We want to trust you, for preventing, together, the nazi process of destruction that is isolation. (...) Stating together that Turkey is a democracy, all imperialists, are nothing but poor liers. For their own interests in Near-Eastern, Caucasus or the Balkans, they support Turkey and close their eyes to its fascist policy. It is the ground on where Turkish fascism stand its persecution against people, every opponents ans our children in first. Will you keep silents ? You, who represent the public opinion of democracies, will you accept that they massacre prisonners and revolutionnars in Turkey ? We, the political prisonners’families, are determined to struggle isolation. We will stand by our sons and daughters and do not allow they will be killed as it is happened in the Ulucanlar prison in Ankara. We want to see you in our ranks. I Turkey, prisons with isolation cells are since a long tome in the agenda. They will be ready very soon. With that system of isolation, each prison will become a torture center. This otrture will not consist to a policy interogation for a week, but massive torture for thousands of prisonners, during many days, many weeks, even many years. For by this way to secret cells, they aim to submit prisonners (...)
By isolation, they will force prisonners to capitulate. We will go through bloody and painful timmes... Near to 10 000 prisonners face to torture and massacre. This call is the cry of 10 000 prisonners !
(...) The Turkish fascism is
ready to attack with a program for a long time. Isolation is the main
attack. The aim of
this agression is still unchanged : "Lead to capitulation and
elimination rebels ". For it they used that we called WHITE DEATH.
You should notice that the policy of attacks in prisons is more intensive
that at the time of the fascist junte fasciste in 1980. Because nowadays,
we should face to a large programm of murders and torture, not applied to
individual people but against 10 000 prisonners. Then, the fascist power
spent thousands of dollars for building jails, and our people face to
misery, 20 millions are under threat of starvation and 40 millions live in
poverty. Prime Minister Ecevit announces his will to attack our children
with these words: "Resolving the problems in prison is a condition to
achieve the program of the governement", "we can not restaure
public safety in the country without doing it in prisons". Though
gangs and gansters are protected, they use the reason of stability to
attack revolutionar prisonners. So, they want to set stability by killing
our children (...) No juridiction, no state of rights could tolerate a so such massive torture (...) Each person with conscience can not keep silent about such acts, wherever it happens (...)
CELL IS TORTURE Isolation – jail is like to be burried alive ! Europeans (...), could you imagine a cell. A funerarium box where a prisonner is put in, bend, after he had to pass by an issue of 50x50 centimeters. A coffin of 2 meter on 3... In that narrow, cold, unaerated place, where the most tiny piece of sky is forbidden, closed by four walls and just furnished with a WC, a couchette, a table and a chair. Three meters further, thick walls recall to you that you are burried. A world that ends after three steps... Without human presence, without, with no sound. This is a grave since each element of life is absent. A ironed door is closed 24 hours, with a hole large like eyes does not let pass any light and opens just for the control when they go to verify if you are still alive. Once per day, they bring to you a meal under the door, shoot with the foot, as if you were a dog. Every thing is organized and studied with the aim of torture. All the beautiful things belonging belonging to man is let behind the door (...) LET PREVENT THAT PRISONNERS BE MURDERED. WE CALL YOU TO SHOW YOUR SOLIDARITY WITH TURKISH PRISONNERS AGAINST CELLS AND MASSACRES.
